In publishing and graphic design, lorem ipsum is placeholder text (filler text) commonly used to demonstrate the graphic elements of a document or visual presentation, such as font, typography, and layout. The lorem ipsum text is typically a section of a Latin text by Cicero with words altered, added and removed that make it nonsensical in meaning and not proper Latin. A close English translation of the words lorem ipsum might be "pain itself". Even though "lorem ipsum" often arouses curiosity because of its resemblance to classical Latin, it is not intended to have meaning. Where text is comprehensible in a document, people tend to focus on the textual content rather than upon overall presentation, so publishers use lorem ipsum when displaying a typeface or design elements and page layout in order to direct the focus to the publication style and not the meaning of the text. In spite of its basis in Latin, use of lorem ipsum is often referred to as greeking, from the phrase "it's all Greek to me" which indicates that this is not meant to be readable text. لورم ایپسوم (Lorem Ipsum) به متن ساختگی در صنعت چاپ، صفحه آرایی و طراحی گرافیک گفته می‌شود، که به عنوان عنصر گرافیکی، برای پر کردن صفحه و ارایه شکل ظاهری صفحه به کار برده می‌شود تا از نظر گرافیکی نشانگر چگونگی نوع و اندازه فونت و ظاهر متن باشد. معمولا طراحان گرافیکی برای صفحه آرایی و لی آوت کردن صفحات گرافیکی خود متنهای ساختگی و بی معنی را استفاده می‌کنند تا صرفا به مشتری یا صاحب کار خود نشان دهند که صفحه طراحی یا صفحه بندی شده بعد از اینکه متن در آن قرار گیرد چگونه به نظر می‌رسد و فونت، تایپوگرافی و لی آوت متنی چگونه در نظر گرفته شده‌است. از آنجایی که طراحان عموما نویسنده متن نیستند و وظیفه کپی‌رایتینگ ندارند ولی کار آنها به نوعی وابسته به متن می‌شود آنها با استفاده از محتویات ساختگی (dummy text) صفحه گرافیکی خود را صفحه آرایی می‌کنند تا مرحله طراحی و لی آوت را به پایان برند. ضمن اینکه آنها عمدا از محتویاتی استفاده می‌کنند که از معنایی مبهم و بی مفهوم پیروی کند تا متن استفاده شده از جایی کپی شده نباشد و ارتباطی با چیزی نداشته باشد.
